Animals, Toys & Dolls is the category in the Fair for those items - regardless of how they are made. This category encompasses knit, crocheted, sewn, felted, repurposed, whatever. I have made a few things for this before, and wasn't too worried about it because I can use one of my standby skills like knitting or crocheting.
My piece I knew the moment I saw Happypotamus that I wanted to make one! Two years ago at fair, someone turned one in and we couldn't stop gushing over the adorable creature. Then last year, two more pieces (a stegosaurus, and a tree frog) showed up. The designer, Heidi Bears, is wildly creative and has dozens of ridiculously cute patterns to make. Her work is all over Ravelry, and if you love the piece but can't crochet, she has authorized crafters to sell pieces made from her patterns on Etsy. (I am planning on putting a few up there myself, so keep a close eye on my Etsy store) The pattern was wonderful, over 30 pages of color photos and step by step instructions. Happy took me one week to make, but he is absolutely adorable, and I will definitely be making more pieces from Heidi's patterns again!
